Enjoy!

It's been 20 years since the band is formed. Can you tell anything about how your music inverted on these years?

Natalia: The music of The Dears is in constant evolution. It is inspired by the world, by the things and people around us because that is what makes art: the refinement and interpretation of a culture. This has always remained the same with The Dears. Only the world has changed. Our music is definitely not sonically trendy at all, in fact we strive for the opposite: to make timeless music, about a moment in time.

How does it feel to make music in Quebec, Montreal? Are there any pros and cons?

Natalia: Right now in Winter, it is very cold. There’s a lot of snow. The wind is so cold that it hurts our skin to go outside. In this way, Montreal encourages us to stay indoors, drink tea and work on music. But other than the weather, its a beautiful place. There’s a very laid back energy, and the arts community is positive and supportive. We have good food, great coffee, fun bars, and music.
What more does a place need?

Your last album "Times Infinity Volume One” released on September 2015. 10 lovely songs!  What are the first reactions you receive from listeners?

Natalia: We are often told that Times Infinity Volume One is a “return to form” -- meaning that we have somehow captured the essence of what our identity is. It is a classic Dears album where we make reference to our older work, and I think that brings a sense of comfort and familiarity to the album that people are drawn to.

You will perform at Salon on 30th of March. You’ve played in İstanbul before. Do you have any memories from İstanbul? How do you remember Turkish audiences and the city?

Natalia: Our first show in Istanbul was inrpiring. We never expected that so many people would know about The Dears and our music. It was amazing. The band spent a week in Istanbul, and some of us travelled around to other parts of Turkey as well. We felt welcome everywhere we went.

Do you know anyting anout Turkish music?

Natalia: No, not really. What do you recommend I listen to?

Which bands/musicians do you listen on these days?

Natalia: I don’t really listen to a lot of music. I only listen to music with my kids, so most of the time it’s The Beatles, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, Silento, Psy, iLoveMemphis and other junk like that.

What do you think about music streaming? Is there any risk for the future of music in digitalising world?

Natalia: It’s too late to assess the risk, because streaming is so very popular. The music business has changed a lot, even over the past five years. As an musician in an older band, it’s often difficult to figure out where we belong. There are so many bands and so much free music out there that it makes the landscape very noisy. Music is everywhere, at our fingertips and in our phones. I think at some point people will realise they have too much music and that it’s time to focus on something that speaks to them in some way.

What is on your agenda for near future?
Natalia: We have already completed Times Infinity Volume Two, and hope to release it this year!

What was the most shocking thing that you heard in recent years?
Natalia: There is too much shocking stuff going on, everywhere, always. So it’s pretty shocking to know that our world may never truly be at peace with itself.

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear these words:

Thanks for answering questions.. Anything you want to add for your awaiting Turkish listeners?

Natalia: We are really looking forward to being in Turkey again. See you soon!
